Bank of Tanzania Governor Emmanuel Tutuba on Tuesday May 28, 2024 hosted a delegation of Citibank, led by the Sub-Sahara Africa Cluster Head, Mr. Akin Dawodu, in Dodoma to discuss issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Governor Tutuba commended Citibank Tanzania for its performance as shown by increased profit as well as managing non-performing loans.

He told Mr. Dawodu that even the Citibank Tanzania Managing Director, Mr. Geofrey Mchangila, who was also in attendance, has been one of the active players in the financial sector in the country.

“We are happy with the performance of the bank. We don’t invest a lot of energy to deal with you. We usually use little energy to deal with you. You are performing very well…and on NPLs we have been referring other banks to learn from you,” he said.

The Governor also advised Citibank, which marks 30 years of its presence in the country next year, to think of expanding its businesses by setting up new branches and expanding their clientele to embrace retail banking services too.

On his part, Mr. Dawodu expressed readiness to continue working with the Tanzanian authorities in taking the financial sector to another level.

“Next year we will be 30 years in Tanzania. We hope to be here another 30 years at least. We need your help to go through different phases,” he said.

The two leaders and their delegations discussed various issues of mutual interest to both of them in furthering the financial sector in the country.

Also present during the discussions were the Director Financial Sector Supervision, Mr. Sadati Musa, Acting Manager Banking Supervision, Ms, Neema Koka, Acting Director Economic Research and Policy, Dr. Deogratias Macha and Personal Assistant to the Governor, Dr. Mosses Mwizarubi.

The Citibank Tanzania Chief Country Compliance Officer and AML Compliance Officer, Ms. Dorbibi Jemadari and Citibank Tanzania Country Risk Manager Thomas Mcha also accompanied Mr. Dawodu.
