The Governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba, met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Tanzania, H.E. Christine Grau, at the Bank of Tanzania offices in Dar es Salaam to discuss various issues related to the country's economy.
During the meeting, Governor Tutuba outlined the steps taken by BoT in the implementation of an interest-based monetary policy, where the Monetary Policy Committee has announced a Central Bank Rate of 5.5% for the first quarter of this year. He explained that this system aims to enhance the effectiveness of monetary policy to control inflation and stimulate economic growth.
The Governor also addressed the government's efforts to promote inclusive financial services in the country. Recently, in his role as the Chairperson of the National Council for Financial Inclusion, he launched a Curriculum for Certified Financial Educators aimed at addressing challenges arising from a lack of personal financial management skills.
Furthermore, Governor Tutuba requested the European Union to further capacitate BoT staff and exchange experiences in various financial and economic matters to enhance their efficiency in fulfilling their responsibilities.
He emphasized that BoT values its collaboration with the European Union in supporting the development of the financial sector and the economy in the country. He affirmed that BoT will continue to work closely with the Union on common issues.
In response, Ambassador Grau commended the Governor for his efforts in overseeing and improving the financial and economic sectors in the country. She stated that the European Union is ready to collaborate with BoT in providing capacity-building training for its staff.
Ambassador Grau also expressed the EU's support for BoT's initiatives, including the implementation of the interest-based monetary policy, the development of inclusive financial services, and the improvement of payment systems.
She emphasized the EU's recognition of the importance of the financial and economic sectors in contributing to the country's development and providing opportunities for its citizens.
