Govt Assures IMF of Continued Cooperation for Sustainable Economic Development

The Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba and the Bank of Tanzania Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba have assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the Government of Tanzania will continue to cooperate with the Fund in ensuring the country’s sustainable economic development.

This was said, during the wrap-up meeting with the IMF staff visit mission team held today 03rd November, 2023- at BoT Sub-Head Office in Dar es Salaam.

Hon. Dr. Mwigulu, who joined the meeting virtually, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment in working closely with the Fund to strengthen its commitment towards promoting financial stability and monetary cooperation.

Also, the Governor reiterated the Bank's process of moving from the Quantity Based to Interest Rate Based Monetary Policy Framework for strengthening the country's economy.

The IMF staff team led by Mr. Charalambos Tsangirides, IMF mission chief for Tanzania, held meetings in Dodoma and Dar es Salaam from October 23 to November 3,2023, to discuss progress on reforms and the authority’s policy priorities in the context of the second review of Tanzania’s forty-month program under the Extend Credit Facility (ECF).

On the other hand, the IMF mission chief for Tanzania has commended efforts made by the Government in managing the economy of the country amidst the emerging global economic challenges.
