In 2005 the Bank of Tanzania carried out a country survey to update the directory of Microfinance practitioners. The purpose of this directory is to provide the Microfinance stakeholders and the general public with the basic information on Microfinance Institutions namely Commercial Banks, Financial Institutions, Financial Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), Savings and Credit Cooperatives Societies (SACCOS) and savings and Credit Associations (SACAs).

Information provided includes legal status, market outreach, target group, Dominant sector, Loan Officers and contacts of Microfinance institutions. This directory has a total number of 1,620 SACCOs, 48 SACAs, 45 CBOs, 62 NGOs, 8 banks, 2 companies, and 95 Government programs.

What is New ...

Small and Medium Enterprises  (SMEs) operators enjoying services at Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB). ACB is  one among commercial banks in the Country, which provides loans/credits to SMEs. ACB has 5 branches in Dar Es Salaam and 1in  Arusha regions. It also has Marketing Agency in Kilimanjaro region. ACB is expecting to open another branch in Mwanza region soon.
