Sheria ya Benki Kuu ya Tanzania ya mwaka 2006 inatoa mamlaka kwa Benki Kuu pekee kutengeneza na kutoa fedha (noti na sarafu) kwa matumizi nchini Tanzania. Hiyo ndiyo fedha halali kwa ajili ya malipo nchini Tanzania. Hivyo, Benki Kuu ina wajibu wa kubuni na kuagiza noti na sarafu ili kukidhi mahitaji ya fedha nchini. Fedha ya Tanzania ni Shilingi, ambayo imegawanywa kwenye senti 100. Benki Kuu inahakikisha kwamba sarafu yake ni ubora unaokubalika kwa sarafu nzuri ambao ni;
Ili kutekeleza na kuhakikisha kwamba hali inakuwa hivyo, Benki inatekeleza Sera ya Fedha Safi ambayo inatoa elimu kwa umma kupitia programu mbalimbali, zikiwemo ushiriki katika maonesho ya biashara ya kimataifa ya Dar es Salaam (Saba Saba) na Kilimo (Nane Nane).
The Bank ensures that issuance and distribution of new and serviceable bank notes as well as collection and processing of bank notes deposited by commercial banks is timely done to optimize cost and efficiency. To ensure that this objective is attained, the Bank has invested in enabling infrastructures, which include branches and safe custody centers. Currently, the Bank has six branches and eight safe custody centers hosted by commercial banks throughout the country. It is the responsibility of the Bank to ensure that there is always an adequate stock of banknotes and coins available in all denominations from the branches and safe custody centers to support economic needs.
